FOR A BETTER EXPERIENCE EXPLORING MABEL’S WWII SCRAPBOOK, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST
Navigating and reading the scrapbook page contents will likely be a better experience on a computer vs. cell phone. The digitized scrapbook pages consists of two types of pages: original and inserted pages. The vintage original paper pages with their nostalgic background color offer a glimpse into Mabel’s memories and those of Oran heros serving during WWII. Envelopes on these pages contain handwritten notes, letters, foreign money, memorabilia, small mementos and more.
The contents of the envelopes were removed, scanned and placed on “insert” pages with white backgrounds.
To enhance the understanding and context of the scrapbook, comments have been added in the digital process. These “comments” appear throughout the pages and are denoted by the symbol C: The comments serve as clarifications, providing extra information or memories. Find the directory of digitized scrap book pages below.
KIA = Killed in Action MIA = Missing in Action POW = Prisoner of War
To retain the integrity of the scrapbook the heroes are listed in the order by page number as found in the Mabel’s scrapbook and are not alphabetized.
